M.2 Ssd In Wwan Slot

I have tried to use the PLEXTOR M.2 ngff 128G SSD, can installed in the WWAN slot, but the bios and OS can not recognized this SSD, maybe some settings is wrong with the bios, or maybe this WWAN slot completely do not support M.2. Ngff SSD, just for WWAN device, so, the problem is because slot not support? Or bios problem? Or Z3795 not support. Notes on T450s (might also apply to T450): The 'Single-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 card slot' is actually the cache drive under the battery and not one on the WWAN slot. And weirdly the HMM does not mention it at all. The actual WWAN slot does support SATA drives and bootable (according to other Reddit posts). Thus, for example, the X220 had an mSATA compatible slot for WWAN into which I was able to drop a Plextor 256GB SSD that now serves as that unit's primary hard disk. Also, the X270 has an m.2 WWAN slot into which other users have been able to drop 2242 m.2 drives from the handful of suppliers who make such tiny devices (2242 means 22mm wide. Buses exposed through the M.2 connector are PCI Express 3.0 & newer, Serial ATA (SATA) 3.0 and USB 3.0, all these standards are backward compatible. As a result, M.2 modules can integrate multiple functions, including the following device classes: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, near field communication (NFC), digital radio, WiGig, wireless WAN (WWAN), and solid-state drives (SSDs). M.2 SSD in WWAN-slot To further expound on that: the T440 supports an M.2 2242 (22mm x 42mm size) SATA SSD. I'm sure of this because I installed one (Transcend MTS400) in a friend's T440 earlier this year.

I want to install an additional M.2 SSD to my X240. As far as I know, X240 has three M.2 port:
- One single side M.2 for wireless card
- One single side M.2 42 mm for WWAN (3G card). Mine is empty in this slot.
- One double side M.2 for cache drive.
For M.2 cache drive, I dont know if my machine has it. I dont have smart card reader module either.
But I do have the single M.2 42 mm.
I want to buy a SSD: MyDigitalSSD Super Boot Drive 42mm SATA III (6G) M.2 2242 NGFF SSD (128GB (120GB)) But it is double side (B and M key).
tell me if I can install it to M.2 slot of WWAN module?

M.2 2242 NVMe SSD for ThinkPad T480

M.2 Ssd In Wwan Slot Software

After witnessing the design fiasco that is the ThinkPad 490, I decided to follow others' advice which is to order last year's T480 instead for cheaper.
This model has room for two possible drives.
(1) 2.5' bay caddy attached with NVMe extension cable circuit board to connect a 2280 SSD. I selected this option for the inclusion of that component which would otherwise have to be ordered separately if buying a traditional hard disk first. I will backup the drive image and restore to a larger SSD model.
(2) WWAN slot for a 2242 NVMe SSD. Lenovo only offered 128GB model for that slot, so I left it blank with intention to source for another SSD later.
And regarding the above point, I'm having a tough time locating any shop that even sells a 2242 NVMe SSD. All the rage is 2280, it seems. Can't find any good offerings on Amazon or Newegg either; practically are available 2242 models are SATA-based, rather than the NVMe the slot demands.
An ideal candidate I've seen is Western Digital PC SN520 but that apparently has sold out or only available through obscure channels. The only dedicated NVMe models widely available are China brands like KingSpec and Netac. They don't have enough mainstream popularity for people to actually buy and review them; so it's a long throw to guess their performance and durability.
Anybody else operating 'niche' hardware that call for the smaller 2242, 2230 form factors?
